中央研究院歷史語言研究所由明清檔案(內閣大庫檔案、軍機檔、宮中檔等)為主要參考資料，另輔以故宮典藏之清國史館傳包、傳稿及清史館傳稿，再選取學界公認具權威性的史料，如《國立故宮博物院清代文獻檔案：武職大臣年表》、《明實錄》、《清實錄》、《清代官員履歷檔案全編》、《明代傳記叢刊》、《清代傳記叢刊》，及今人編纂的《清代名人傳略》、《清代職官年表》、《清人室名別稱字號索引》等做為參考文獻，亦使用《清代職官志》、《中國官制大辭典》等參考書籍揀選出歷史人物，進行加值分析，建置人名權威檔資料庫。

Historical figures were selected from reference books such as “Journal of China” and “The Dictionary of Chinese Official System”, and value-added analysis was performed to build an authoritative name file database.
